Most road safety events end with a communique. This one is built to end with signatures.
Beyond the Wheels 2.0 was launched to stakeholders in Georgetown on Wednesday 14 October 2026, from 9:30 to noon, at the Atlantic Suites Hotel, formerly Pegasus Suites and Corporate Center, on Seawall Road, Kingston. The launch was not the event. It was the opening of the programme that runs toward the event.
The event is a two-day Transportation and Road Safety Summit at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre on 9 and 10 March 2027, convened by Clarke’s Productions Inc. Two hundred delegates. Nine tracks. And a deadline that sits at 18:00 on the second day, when participating institutions, operators and government agencies are to sign a National Road Safety Declaration.
That last detail is what makes this different from a conference.
Who was actually in the room
Not a press conference with an empty back row. Officers of the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Women’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry Guyana, the Private Sector Commission and the Guyana Press Association, alongside sponsors, partners and stakeholders. Scoop Ride Inc was confirmed as title sponsor. CARITRANS was recognised from the lectern as a strategic partner.
Chambers, press and the private sector in the same room, five months before the Summit floor opens, is the point of a launch.
What the nine tracks actually cover
Track 01 is road safety, driver dignity and defensive driving. Track 02 is fleet modernization and fleet management. Track 03 is logistics and trade corridors, which places Guyana on the regional map through port to interior routes. Track 04 is infrastructure readiness. Track 05 is regulatory reform. Track 06 is insurance and risk, which the programme calls the financial architecture behind every vehicle on the road. Track 07 is mental health behind the wheel. Track 08 is corporate responsibility. Track 09 is economic growth and mobility.
Read that list again and notice something. Two of the nine are not about vehicles at all. Track 01 covers professional standards and dignity at work. Track 07 covers fatigue, stress and addiction, described by the organisers as the invisible cost of extended time on the road. A summit that puts driver mental health on the main programme is making an argument about where road safety actually begins.
The model is borrowed deliberately. The organisers point to the Lifesavers Conference on Roadway Safety in the United States and the executive forums of the World Economic Forum, adapted to Caribbean and Latin American conditions. Nine sectors have been invited: government, the private sector, transportation, logistics, energy, law enforcement, emergency response, education and civil society. The line carried throughout the campaign is Join the Conversation, Shape the Change.
What a media partnership means here
La Caribena News has been named a media partner of Beyond the Wheels 2.0. In practice that means editorial coverage of the programme leading to the Summit, and of the Summit itself.
“There is real appetite in Guyana for road safety to be handled seriously, and Beyond the Wheels 2.0 is the programme that puts a date on it, puts the right people in one room and asks them to sign something,” said Theon Alleyne, publisher of La Caribena News. “Covering that properly, from the launch floor to the Declaration in March, is exactly what a regional business newsroom is for.”
It is not a new relationship. The publication has reported on Beyond the Wheels 2.0 through the year: its presentation to the WeLead business audience in June 2026, covered at https://www.lacaribenanews.com/beyond-the-wheels-2-welead-guyana-2026/, and its meeting with the Private Sector Commission in July 2026 on fleet management and road safety, covered at https://www.lacaribenanews.com/private-sector-commission-meets-beyond-the-wheels-2-0-on-fleet-management-and-road-safety/. Reporting from the launch, with photographs from the room, is at https://www.lacaribenanews.com/beyond-the-wheels-2-launch-georgetown-2026/.
A road safety programme that intends to produce a signed document needs a record of how it got there. That record is the work.
